«What happened to the upper lip of the first girl?»
You could buy all kinds of different stuff back in the day, and the Subaru BRAT was as different as it got. The seats were made of all-weather plastic and far from the most comfortable, but the view was spectacular. Though holding onto them made it harder to reach for a cold one in the cooler. The price did include a spare tire mounted under the hood and a spring-loaded door that concealed a built-in footstep to facilitate getting into the bed.

Subaru BRAT - Wikipedia
Hi all i have recently recieved a ticket from an ignorant Wichita Police officer for allowing a passenger to ride where not intended The BRAT jump seats I know the seats are legal, but i just have to prove that in court. I called the sherrifs department and talked to a very helpful deputy that told me i was right when i said the jumpseats are a legal rear facing passanger compartment. He said that what he would do is take some snap shots of my jumpseats and get something off the web stating that they are stock seats intended for transportation of passangers on city streets, and not just for sitting in while at the lake hagin out with some friends. I am wondering if the owners manual that i dont have for my 81 BRAT GL would say that they are for transporting passangers on the street.

Remember the Subaru Brat with seats in the pickup bed?
In the aftermath of the oil crisis, compact vehicles, including pickup trucks, were in high demand in the United States. Chevrolet brought in an Isuzu pickup badged as the LUV and then added its domestically developed S Dodge imported a Mitsubishi model it called the D50 and then did its own Rampage. Ford used a Mazda it sold as the Courier until it downsized its own Ranger.
It was an export-only model, never being officially sold in Japan. Unlike these trucks, all BRATs had four-wheel drive, being developed from the existing Leone station wagon. It has other features such as an optional T-top split roof, a spring-loaded hidden door for a side step into the cargo bed, and a spare tire mounted under the hood.
